Configure Horde Groupware Webmail with a custom email server

Before running the commands shown on this page, you should load the Bitnami stack environment by executing the installdir/use_APPNAME script (Linux and MacOS) or by clicking the shortcut in the Start Menu under “Start -> Bitnami APPNAME Stack -> Application console” (Windows). On OS X VMs, the installation directory is /opt/bitnami and OS X VM users can click the “Open Terminal” button to run commands. Learn more about the Bitnami stack environment and about OS X VMs.

The Bitnami Horde Groupware Webmail Stack does not ship a mail server. To be able to see email messages in the Inbox or to send emails, it is necessary to configure an external IMAP/SMTP email server. Follow the steps below using a Gmail IMAP/SMTP server as example:

  • Log in to the application as an administrator.

  • Browse to the Administrator Panel and use the “Configuration -> Horde -> Authentication” menu to display the authentication settings.

  • Add your email account in the administrator list.

  • By default, the application is configured to use SQL authentication, so only the default user is able to log in to the application. To log in with your existing email account, change this option to “Let a Horde application handle authentication”.

You should now be able to log in to the application using your email account credentials.
