Connect to Hadoop from a different machine

Before running the commands shown on this page, you should load the Bitnami stack environment by executing the installdir/use_APPNAME script (Linux and MacOS) or by clicking the shortcut in the Start Menu under “Start -> Bitnami APPNAME Stack -> Application console” (Windows). On OS X VMs, the installation directory is /opt/bitnami and OS X VM users can click the “Open Terminal” button to run commands. Learn more about the Bitnami stack environment and about OS X VMs.

For security reasons, ports used by Hadoop cannot be accessed over a public IP address. To connect to Hadoop from a different machine, you must open the port of the service you want to access remotely. Refer to the FAQ for Windows, Linux and macOS for more information.

Check the Hadoop ports page to see the complete list of the most relevant ports in Hadoop.

IMPORTANT: Bitnami Native Installers do not modify the firewall configuration of your computer, therefore the Hadoop ports could be open which is a significant security risk. You are strongly advised to close the Hadoop ports (refer to the FAQ for more information on this).
