Connect to Elasticsearch from a different machine

Before running the commands shown on this page, you should load the Bitnami stack environment by executing the installdir/use_APPNAME script (Linux and MacOS) or by clicking the shortcut in the Start Menu under “Start -> Bitnami APPNAME Stack -> Application console” (Windows). On OS X VMs, the installation directory is /opt/bitnami and OS X VM users can click the “Open Terminal” button to run commands. Learn more about the Bitnami stack environment and about OS X VMs.

IMPORTANT: Bitnami Native Installers do not modify the firewall configuration of your computer, therefore the Elasticsearch ports could be open which is a significant security risk. You are strongly advised to close the Elasticsearch ports (refer to the FAQ for more information on this).

To access the Elasticsearch server from another computer or application, make the following changes to the node’s installdir/elasticsearch/config/elasticsearch.yml file:

  • Specify the hostname or IP address where the server will be accessible. Set it to to listen on every interface.

  • network.publish_host: Specify the host name that the node publishes to other nodes for communication.
