Understand the default cluster configuration

The Bitnami Multi-Tier Solution for NATS uses multiple VMs in a peer-to-peer topology.

It has a masterless architecture which means that any node can accept any request (read, write, or delete) and route it to the correct node even if the data is not stored in that node. The cluster is configured as follows:

  • Authentication: Authentication is enabled. Only authenticated requests will work.
    • Default username: nats
  • Communication security: Communication between nodes can be encrypted, but encryption is disabled by default. Enable TLS encryption by following these instructions.
  • Credential security: The credentials used by clients to connect to the NATS cluster are encrypted in the configuration file by default.
